Fall is right around the corner, so that means time for sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes! Or in my case, since I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin spice lattes, lots of homemade apple and pumpkin pies. But food aside, let’s talk fall fashion trends of 2018 and what to look for.
Fashion is something that some feel like has rules, while others feel like it’s a personal expression and no boundaries exist. For me, I feel like nothing should stop you from wearing what makes you happy and confident.
In particular, I’m talking about short girls wearing a maxi dress.
I’m currently 23 and at this age, I feel like a lot of people are drinking and partying a lot, but I feel like it’s no longer my favoured type of entertainment. At one short moment of my life, I did enjoy it. And don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy drinking and partying maybe once or twice a year, but to take part in those activities at the frequency that many of my friends do it, I can’t. Because so many of my friends at the time loved that as a past time and knew I once loved it, it was hard to take a step back and remove myself from the scene. So here’s why I quit drinking and partying so much and how I stopped.
Don’t put away your old clothes just yet. As many of you already know, fashion styles and trends cycle throughout the years. Some pieces are directly cycled, some are modified. That’s the beauty of the fashion evolution, old clothes can always be re-used or treasured as vintage pieces. In fact, with some trend re-appearing, it makes me regret donating some old pieces that I definitely would be re-wearing now in 2017. However, the only thing that makes me not feel so bad about my ill decisions is that I probably wouldn’t have still fit in them anyways. None the less, I have learned to try re-using and re-wearing old clothes to get the most wear out of them.
I’m sure you’ve heard about bloggers and Youtubers raving about Acai bowls. I’ve wanted to try it for a long time, but I’ve been holding back because I figured it was generally the same as what I make myself for breakfast sometimes. But since it’s close to where I live, it seemed appropriate to try it out and see if it actually tastes good or if people are just saying it’s “good” because it’s a superfood. I got to find out the truth behind Acai bowls.
I checked out Colette Grand Cafe in Toronto to see if it matches up with the reputation it has on Instagram. Is it as good as it seems online on Instagram? On Instagram, when you look up Colette, you see beautiful, bright, delicious foods with instagram-worthy backdrops and floor-drops for photos. Many bloggers and Instagramers visit the cafe to get professional looking photos without trying too hard. My friend Linda had her birthday shoot here, so it was a great chance for Esther, Linda, and I to check out how the place really looked and how the food tasted.
Have you ever thought back into your childhood memory and remembered a place that you found was beautiful, fun, and unlike any other you’ve visited? I recently did. I took a trip to Mill Pond Park to see if the place in my memory was real. To my delight, it in fact was real. Obviously it was much smaller than I anticipated since I was a lot younger, but it definitely still captured the same beauty, light, and fun.
Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of attending the KISS Fall and Holiday 2016 Collection.
It was a pleasant experience at Delysees in Toronto. I have always heard of Delysees and seen many of the delicious pictures, but I had never been there. Being a girl close to Toronto, but still quite the commute away, it’s hard to drag me down there just for food. However, I finally got the chance to try it today! I had the vanilla eclair and it tastes sweet but light. They also offered wine for the guests and thai rolled ice cream! I was so excited for it because it’s all I ever see on Facebook. I have to say, watching it being made in real life is hypnotizing. I think if I’m ever in Toronto, I’ll drop by and grab some sweets again.
Fashion is complicated sometimes. It’s nice to dress up and buy clothes, but what it does to your bank, is not fun. So I decided to make a short list of summer fashion essentials that you need that will not go out of style. That means if you buy one of these essentials, you most likely will not need to replace it for a long time. These fashion essentials are worth the investment to buy high quality versions.
Now that I’m finally graduated from school, it’s time to venture out into the real world and be a full fledged adult. I have to admit, I’m not ready yet because I want to enjoy my years travelling around the world. I just feel like I’m not ready to be tied down to a 9 to 5 job with only two weeks of vacation. I’m not satisfied. Unfortunately, I will eventually have to get a job and move out, so transitioning into business style is just the start.
I know for a fact that when I find a job, I want a place where I can dress to express. I mean, it is 2016. I want the business style dress code to be professional, but I can still play around with it and make it “me”. I’m not a huge fan of the dress pants/skirt/suit/blazer combo. That just repulses me to have to wear it. I mean it may look nice sometimes, but most of the time, I’ll pass on it.
SPRING IS IN THE AIR. You can feel it in the atmosphere when you walk out. It’s just creeping it’s way around. But how do you pack for this weather? For the past two weeks I’ve been staying at a friend’s place and trying to plan ahead and packing light is so hard! I mean- basic make up, bath essentials, and school things take up half my duffel bag… So where do my clothes go?! I really had to pack light for each week, but still be able to accommodate this awkward weather. I must say, it was a real challenge. The first week, I packed way too little. In fact, I didn’t pack any pants at all (because we all know how I feel about them). So in short, I was freezing cold the whole week. I swear the weather said it’d be warm! So for the second week, this week, I packed more layers… Which I found myself overheating many of the days. However, I had more combinations for outfits.
Told you I’d wear the hell out of my houndstooth skirt. Instead of wearing it for a light outfit, I’m styling it to keep me warm. It’s been raining a lot since Spring came around. When I think of rain, I think: ick. Go away please. For whatever reason, I never want to wear colours when it’s raining. Maybe because it’s so gloomy and dark that it just puts me off. The only time I really want to wear a bright outfit is when the sun is radiating in the sky. Oh, I miss that weather. Well, I guess I’ll suck it up continue layering on clothes. :(
I love geometric pieces. They show off a sense of sophistication and edge. The hard lines make me think of a professional business woman while the colours and different dimensions of the shapes convey a creative image. They’ve been in season since winter but I haven’t been able to get my hands on the perfect piece until now.
The weather in Toronto has been wavering between fall and spring. It’s chilly in the morning, but warmer during the afternoon. Being a commuter student, I need to dress according to both climates because if I leave the house in the morning, it’s already afternoon by the time I get to school. Having versatile jackets is a pretty high priority in my books.
Spring weather has been coming and going recently. It’s literally like a tease. One day it’s 2’C, another day it’s -7’C. Sometimes it even starts at -7’C and becomes 5’C in the afternoon. So obviously, picking out what to wear is the biggest confusion for me. When the weather is bipolar, all I want to do is be laid back and stay in bed. The stress of having to choose attire that I won’t regret is too much. Luckily, crop tops are so versatile. You can literally style it for all 4 seasons and still look weather sensible.
Crop tops should be an essential in any girl’s closet. It’s just necessary to have one in black, white, and grey. They match with everything. You can wear it with or without baring your midriff. They also come in many styles for any occasion. If you have a more formal occasion, look for a bedazzled or lace style. For everyday use like mine, I’m going with a plain cotton- blend crop style.
