Preparing multiple meals at once has been an on going trend for the past few years. There are many benefits associated with it: saving time, lower expenses, healthy eating, and the convenience. Someone new to the meal prep lifestyle may find that the meals are bland or consume far too much time to cook. However, there are many clever tips and tricks to ease the workload and make a variety of meals with little effort.
Tacos and burritos can be messy and a headache if you’re hosting a party for people. They fall, they break, they get soggy, they crumble everywhere. Trust me, I know because I love me a good home made taco. So to get over those struggles, here’s some taco hacks I’ve come by:
The mermaid and unicorn trend have been taking the internet by storm. People have begun making mermaid themed things ranging from food to clothing. Something about the beautiful mix of colours and iridescent details brings these mermaid things to life. One of the more popular and new items that have been introduced is mermaid toast. There’s no surprise to why this one creation has caught so much attention, it’s so elegant and beautiful! So I decided I’m going to take the challenge and create mermaid toast!
I love vegan food because it’s so versatile, healthy, makes you feel good, and aesthetically pleasing. I partnered up with Old El Paso to try my hand at making some vegan taco fillings because you can never have enough taco recipes! I’m actually so excited for this collaboration because I’ve always ran to Old El Paso for taco night supplies, haha.
So, after many trial and errors, I have 3 recipes to share made out of: lentils, rice, and cauliflower. If you want a video, I’ll have it linked at the bottom of this post.
I’m sure you’ve heard about bloggers and Youtubers raving about Acai bowls. I’ve wanted to try it for a long time, but I’ve been holding back because I figured it was generally the same as what I make myself for breakfast sometimes. But since it’s close to where I live, it seemed appropriate to try it out and see if it actually tastes good or if people are just saying it’s “good” because it’s a superfood. I got to find out the truth behind Acai bowls.
I was in quite the dire situation with little to no food in the fridge and pantry. I wasn’t going to be grocery shopping anytime soon, so I needed quick meal I could make out of what I had on hand. And of course, the one thing that you can depend on is rice balls or onigiri.
Onigiri are rice balls formed into either spherical or triangular shapes and wrapped with nori. I obviously didn’t have the traditional ingredients like sticky rice or nori, so I altered the recipes quite a bit. After making onigiri, I have come to learn that it is not as easy as you’d think it is and I may need A LOT of practice before mastering the art. I actually ended up using too much rice and too little filling, making each bite full of rice. I also found that because I am a beginner at making onigiri, it was VERY time consuming. If I’m starving as I was in the video making it, I’ll just chuck all the fillings into a bowl next time.
I checked out Colette Grand Cafe in Toronto to see if it matches up with the reputation it has on Instagram. Is it as good as it seems online on Instagram? On Instagram, when you look up Colette, you see beautiful, bright, delicious foods with instagram-worthy backdrops and floor-drops for photos. Many bloggers and Instagramers visit the cafe to get professional looking photos without trying too hard. My friend Linda had her birthday shoot here, so it was a great chance for Esther, Linda, and I to check out how the place really looked and how the food tasted.
Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of attending the KISS Fall and Holiday 2016 Collection.
It was a pleasant experience at Delysees in Toronto. I have always heard of Delysees and seen many of the delicious pictures, but I had never been there. Being a girl close to Toronto, but still quite the commute away, it’s hard to drag me down there just for food. However, I finally got the chance to try it today! I had the vanilla eclair and it tastes sweet but light. They also offered wine for the guests and thai rolled ice cream! I was so excited for it because it’s all I ever see on Facebook. I have to say, watching it being made in real life is hypnotizing. I think if I’m ever in Toronto, I’ll drop by and grab some sweets again.
I’ve always wanted to try afternoon or high tea. It always looked so classy, posh, and delicious. Any time I see desserts beautifully plated, it wins me over and I want it. Now, afternoon tea tends to be very pricy. It’s usually minimum $30 per person. Some prices even go up to a whopping $70 each. I’m sure the high end tea places have much more luxury desserts and teas, but it’s totally out of my budget. Luckily, I found a Groupon for afternoon tea for two at Ruelo. How much was it? Only $30 for TWO! What a deal! So you know I definitely took the chance and bought a ticket.
Popcorn is one of my favourite snacks. I love it because it is crispy, low in calories, and tastes good by itself or mixed in with toppings. I originally shared with you one recipe in my healthy late night snacks video a while back. It wasn’t exactly a ‘recipe’, but more like just slathering Sriracha on top (which by the way tastes amazing). Since then, I’ve been experimenting with what I’ve got in my kitchen to see if I can more different flavours I can share with my friends since not all my friends can eat spicy. Any excuse I have to make healthy snacks, I will take it! So here are some of my favourite popcorn recipes:
Sweet Note is a dessert cafe located in Markham. I’m quite fond of sweets and tea, so I figured Sweet Note would be a great place to visit. Plus, the sign is pretty cute, so the food has to be good, RIGHT? RIGHT?!Upon walking in, it’s a small interior, but pleasantly decorated. The cafe was clean with all white furniture ranging from regular to high top tables. The front also has a glass display with colourful treats you can purchase to go. Sweet Note had: milk mousse, cupcakes, cake of the day, and macarons behind the glistening glass. The tables were also topped with a small jar of lollipops that you could snack on while waiting for your order. I found that it was a cute touch as it was multi- functional. Plus, who doesn’t want to snack while waiting for their snacks?!
I’ve been eating healthy for a while, so I’ve had my fair share of salad dressing experience. I still do enjoy a salad, but I prefer many other things than that. Although, I do have to mention, salads at restaurants taste bomb. I’m assuming it’s because they have far more variety in ingredients than what I have in my fridge (I’m a lazy girl and I don’t like going grocery shopping for multiple items, what can I say?) . Now because I don’t have many ingredients in my fridge, I understand if you don’t either. To help you lazy buddies out, I’ve got 4 healthy & simple salad dressing recipes. Most likely, you will have most of these ingredients in your fridge or pantry. If you don’t, well… They’re essentials, so you should get on it!
Now before I start this post, I want to say that I’ve never been to Winterlicious or fine dining before, so this was my first experience. I’ve always wanted to go to both because Winterlicious is a great time to try new, expensive restaurants for a discounted price. And I always thought the serving sizes of regular family restaurants can be quite big, so this was a fun change of pace.
Hey everyone! For those of you who don’t live in Canada, we actually celebrate Thanksgiving on October 13th. My family typically doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, so it was really exciting to be able to celebrate with my friends for the first time.
Let’s start off with the day before. We spent do much time looking up recipes and DIYs to make my plain, very empty room as festive and cozy as possible. To do that, we did some DIY center pieces. Like the whole day, I just helped pick out pieces and watched my friends put it all together beautifully. If you want a video and/or more in- depth explanation in gifs or something, let me know! I did film it but thought it was too basic of a video to put up.
Now, I go through a lot of phases when it comes to healthy eating. And when I say that, I mean I have a very select few dishes I always make when I want something to eat that’s full of flavour and “special” because it’s not just quinoa and whatever dish is on the dinner table.
Making healthy meals and trying new recipes is so recreational and therapeutic to me. it’s also very adventurous because you don’t know how it’s going to taste or turn out.
